REACH – where are we and where are we going?

Vibeke Plambeck, Senior Adviser, Lawyer Confederation of Danish Industry, Denmark

With REACH the groundwork for common European rules for the use of chemicals has been created. The legislation is past its first steps and on its way to implementation, and a great many problems with the handling of REACH have come up. The Confederation of Danish Industry, which is Denmark’s largest industrial organization, took at a very early stage the responsibility for the political process as well as the promotion of REACH through the national helpdesk, through conferences, workshops, courses and the implementation. The implementation of the pre-registration and the following steps taken have clearly shown, that a great many unclear questions are still to be answered and that the so much sought after understanding of common European rules is not always there. Vibeke Plambeck, who is responsible for the Danish Confederation’s work with REACH, will in her speech tell about the many activities the Danish Confederation has initiated to implement REACH, as well as the future challenges the industry is up against for the implementation of REACH.
