Program for accompanying persons

A program covering both days of the congress is offered for accompanying persons. The tour on Monday 7th of September will bring you around the local district/county of Vestfold to see some sights and experience the Norwegian culture and food traditions. In the afternoon there is also a possibility to visit the Jotun museum. The tour on Tuesday 8th of September will be exploring the city of Sandefjord and its traditions and history.

 
Monday 7th September “Experience the beautiful Lågendalen river valley with lunch”

Experience – culture – food traditions and cultural heritage

 You will be picked up by coach from the hotel in the morning. The tour goes up the Lågendalen river valley along the old eastside road to Nordrum Farmstead. Here we have arranged an art/nature path/info about salmon fishing. After that you will be served a lunch based on local raw materials from the Lågendalen river valley. After lunch the tour continues to the old Høyjord stave church from the 11th century. You will be given a guided tour of the church, before the coach returns to Rica Park Hotel Sandefjord.  

There will be an English speaking guide along on the trip that will take approximately 4 ½ hours. Please wear good comfortable walking shoes and warm clothes.

“Visit the Jotun museum”

The headquarters of the Norwegian paint producer Jotun in based in Sandefjord and they have over the years built up an extensive historical paint museum in the centre of Sandefjord, only 5 minutes walking from Rica Park Hotel Sandefjord. The museum gives you a lot of information about Jotun as a paint company and its development. We have been fortunate enough to get them to open up the museum for us Monday the 7th of September in afternoon from 4:30 – 6:15 p.m. Dag Furu the museum manager will be present and can give a guided tour around the museum. The visit to the museum is open for all participants and accompanying persons at the SLF Congress. Please sign up in the congress reception if you are interested

Tuesday 8th September “Historical stroll with a touch of whale”

The guide will meet you in the reception of Rica Park Hotel Sandefjord in the morning. The walking tour of Sandefjord starts by visiting the famous whaling monument, the whaling ship Southern Actor in the harbour and pass by the local fish food shop. The tour then continues through the old part of the city “Bjerggata” and if time allows also a visit by the old former city spa “Kurbadet”. The tour ends with a visit at the whaling museum. There will be an English speaking guide along on the trip that will take approximately 2 hours.
